Throw Away Your Scale! (Part 2)
Scales lead to “crazy-making” thinking. There’re only two possible scenarios that result from weighing; feeling bad or feeling some version of relief (ultimately, relief isn’t a favorable emotion in this context). Neither reaction has anything to do with a healthy emotional state or way of living. BE MINDFUL, your reaction to the number on the scale is never consistent or stable. A number you feel ok about one week is often devastating the next week. It promotes insatiable thinking and behavior. Getting on the scale makes you feel like a crazy person — even worse, makes you act like a crazy person!
Whether you’re relying on a number on the scale to determine your worth or your menu for the day, trust me it’ll never help you reach your goals. Throw your scale away. I’m serious. NO good can come of weighing yourself.
Instead, get in touch with your body, how you feel in your heart. STOP objectifying your own body and begin connecting with it. This growing connection WILL lead you to your perfect weight! Weighing is a disconnected addicts’ vice, let it go. I promise, you’ll learn to be grateful for the choice. You must stop all self-abusive behaviors if you want to obtain a healthy weight and a peaceful existence with your mind, body and food.
Weighing yourself on the scale can only make you feel unworthy and undeserving of love and care, even if you cannot see the direct connection, it’s true. This is the worst lie of them all. If you weigh in at even a half pound more than you want, your thinking is off for the day and emotional eating or depriving will be inevitable. Think about it, lower numbers are NEVER really low enough, at least not for long. And the higher numbers are just plain devastating. I swear, my heart is feels sick just thinking about how I used to feel and for how you might feel currently about your body and when you weigh yourself.
Weighing is a NO-win situation. For most people, it’s impossible to feel balanced, peaceful, good, valuable, worthy and deserving when you weigh yourself. The truth is, your value is beyond “measure.” Embrace this truth with all your heart and spirit and exit this wretched merry-go-round for good.
Like diets, weighting sets you up to fail…
